I chose this course because there’s lots of career pathways to go down. Everyone in my course has a different career goal such as working in biomedical sciences, police force or fire services, just to name a few!
I’m really enjoying my course as I’m able to learn the forensic skills I need to work towards a degree apprenticeship in the police force. Staff are supportive and it’s much more laidback than school – it’s great studying a subject I actually love!
“I choose STC because it was local to me and had a real community feel to the college compared to other bigger colleges. I’ve always been interested in games and films and I was pleased when I found a course which meant I could learn about the creative side of this. I would recommend the media course as you cover lots of different sectors including making short films, recording and broadcasting and I like the collaborative work we do with other departments. The lessons are a lot more hands on and practical. Its more relaxed and when the lectures explain things, the leave it to you to find your own way to produce your own work.”
Throughout my history at the college, everyone around me has helped me develop my independence to prepare myself for the world of work. Everyone is incredibly friendly, and because of that, I have easily adjusted to college life and I am now confident when working with others. I’m really enjoying the level 3 computing course. I like the fact that you can do many experiments with all sorts of technology, such as playing with drones, using the 3D printer, and building computer networks. I also like how you can use your organisational skills for project management – all in the space of one year.
I really enjoy the practical aspects of my course, but there’s a good balance between practical and theoretical learning. The course has given me more opportunities to get hands-on experience of performing as a band and this has boosted my confidence. The teachers are friendly and supportive and will often go above and beyond. After completing my course, I’m hoping to study the HNC qualification at the college. I often perform live at bars and other venues as a session musician, but I feel like the HNC in Music will help me learn and improve the skills I need to pursue this as a full-time career.
