Overview top
This course is designed to develop a range of practical and knowledge skills to enable learners to start a career in engineering, with a particular focus on marine engineering. Learners will gain practical skills in engineering workshops including hand fitting, machining, and welding, while studying GCSE English and maths to achieve a grade C (4) or higher, to meet the entry criteria for a Marine Pre-Cadetship.
Qualifications will include a L2 PEO and a maritime sector overview certificate.
Entry Requirements top
Learners must have GCSE English and maths at level D (3) or above.
Assessment top
Learners will be assessed through creating a portfolio of work (knowledge), and producing practical test pieces to a given standard (skills).
Professional Opportunities top
On successful completion of the programme (which includes gaining a grade C (4) in GCSE maths and English) learners can progress to an interview for the Pre-Cadetship programme, move into employment or an apprenticeship, or study further on a Level 2 Engineering technical certificate.
