Overview top

The engineering sector is growing both locally and nationally, and is a government priority area.

There is currently a skills gap in the market for multi-skilled maintenance technicians and engineers.

Salaries for qualified technicians can range from £25-£35K depending on the industry role, and engineers £30-£40K.

This programme covers the fundamental skills and knowledge common to all engineering practices, but is particularly geared towards developing electrical and mechanical skills to work towards a career as a multi-skilled maintenance technician/engineer.

This programme enables learners to acquire engineering competencies in realistic, sheltered and controlled environment workshops. This will then enable a safe progression into the workplace / employment.

This programme focuses on practical skills and knowledge, where learners will gain practical experience and understanding of mechanical and electrical systems including machining, motors, gearboxes, pumps, electrical & electronic circuits, and modern high tech methods of preventative maintenance using condition monitoring.

This qualification has been developed in consultation with colleges, training associations and industry to ensure that it meets the needs of the engineering sector.
