This qualification focuses on practical skills and knowledge. Learners will gain practical experience and understanding of some of the situations that they could face in a job role within the engineering sector. This qualification has been designed to give a ‘hands on’ practical approach to basic engineering. It covers the foundation level knowledge and understanding of a range of engineering competencies, including mechanical, welding, electrical, and electronics, and develops employability skills such as preparing for interview and managing own learning.
The course is ideal if:
you have limited prior knowledge and understanding of the engineering sector and are thinking about engineering as a career but would like some practical experience of job roles first
you are looking for a career change
you wish to learn new skills.
There are no formal entry qualification requirements to study this course, but you should have an interest in learning new skills, and a positive approach to learning.
Literacy and numeracy levels must be sufficient to comply with the health and safety aspects of the course, and the assessment requirements.
Learners will be assessed through carrying out set tasks, both practical and knowledge based.
Learners can progress onto other engineering based qualifications at level 2.
The course also facilitates progression to employment, or an apprenticeship.
