CACHE Technical Certificate in Health and Social Care Level 3

This is a full-time, practical, work-related course that is completed in one year. This qualification develops the knowledge and skills needed when working with adults in health and social care environments. The qualification covers a wide range of key subject areas in health and social care, allowing learners to pursue an interest in the specific areas of social care, health studies and health sciences.

Units of study include; Supporting individuals and their physical emotional needs, Activities of daily living, Health care legislation and procedures.  

It enables learners to access Higher Education, once they have completed the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care. Learners will be required to attend placement in a real work environment to support their learning to a minimum of 200 hours per year. Examples of possible placements could be a residential care home, nursing home, day centre, children's centre, health centre, supported/sheltered accomodation, Domiciliary/community care, respite care and specialised voluntary groups.

Study Programme

Changes to the way the Government funds courses for students aged 16 and over means that instead of a single course, students are required to complete a full time Study Programme (whether they come to college or stay on at school)

This means:

• All 16-19 year-olds will be offered high quality study programmes aimed at giving them the best opportunity to move into higher education or secure skilled employment.

• All students who are able will take a substantial qualification recognised by employers as being of real benefit to them in securing work or a university place.

• Where appropriate, students will also take part in work experience.

• Students who don’t have a GCSE in English and maths at 16 will continue to study these subjects after 16.

• Students who aren’t able to study a qualification will take a programme of work experience focusing on developing their employability skills, along with work to develop numeracy, literacy and other core education skills.

If you decide to continue your studies at South Tyneside College your study programme will look like this;

• A main qualification: CACHE Level 3 Certificate in Health and Social Care

• 200 hours of practical work experience

• Preparation for the world of work leading to work placement and enterprise

• Enrichment activities such as visits, sports activities and enterprise

A minimum of 4 GCSE subjects including maths and English at grade A-C (9-4).  Learners must also have an interview with Health and Social Care staff and have a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

All those who wish to work or are working in an unsupervised role with adults in health and social care environments or those who wish to access higher education.

The course is assessed by your tutor or assessor using a range of methods. This could include direct observation in the workplace, a portfolio of evidence or written assignments.

Job roles can include; Care Assistant and Senior Care Assistants in residential settings or supported living. Healthcare Support Workers in Community and Primary Care Environments. Healthcare Assistants in Acute Health Environments. Care Support Workers and Senior workers in Domiciliary Services.

On successful completion of this one year programme, the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Care is an appropriate progression route into HE or employment.
