The games industry is one of the fastest growing media sectors, with GTA5 grossing $800m during its first day release. If you're a gamer looking to take the leap from player to developer our course is an ideal way to begin building your game development skills.

During the course you will explore the various disciplines of game development such as designing the game experience, producing in-game artwork and coding game functionality. We work with the latest industry standard software including 3DS Max, Photoshop, Game Maker, Unreal 4 and Unity 5; ensuring that you'll be as industry ready as possible when you finish the course. By the end of the first term all students will have created a 2D platformer in Game Maker complete with custom art, functionality and level design.

You will study the following modules:

Unit 1 – Media Representations

Unit 2 – Working in the Creative Media Industry

Unit 3 – Digital Media Skills

Unit 4 – Pre-Production Portfolio

Unit 12 - Website Development 

Unit 13 – Digital Game Production

Entry Requirements top

A minimum of 5 GCSE at grade C (4) or above including English language, or a full level 2 diploma in media/ICT or other related area.

GCSE maths is desired but not a course requirement.

Assessment top

Assessments consist of both internal and externally marked work. Internal assessments consist of game development projects and written work. Externally marked assessments consists of game development projects, written work and timed exams.
