Overview top

The Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Creative Media Production (Games Development) is for students who have completed the Level 4 HNC in Creative Media Production (Games Development) or equivalent qualification. In the HND you will continue to work on a variety of practical projects all aimed at developing your skills in a specific element of games design. The units you will study on this course are:

  • Unit 6 - Collaborative Project
  • Unit 7 - Personal Professional Development
  • Unit 44 – Advanced Games Development Studies
  • Unit 48 – Mobile Game Development
  • Unit 61 – Advanced 3D Modelling
  • Unit 70 – Scripting for Games
  • Unit 75 – Environment and Level Design

Games design and development is one of the fastest growing industries in the world and during this higher education course, you will continue to build upon the skills and techniques developed on the HNC. You continue to learn how to fully plan, prototype and develop professional quality computerised games, utilising the latest industry standard technology.

You will be using the latest industry standard game engines including Unreal Engine 4, Unity 5 and 3DS Max and accompanying hardware, you will learn level design principles and then put them into practice building your own working video game prototypes. These help you to build a portfolio of working examples to demonstrate at interviews to aid progression into the industry upon completion of this course.

Studying this course, you will achieve the Level 4 HND (Higher National Diploma) in Creative Media Production (Games Development), which is the equivalent to the first two years of a degree. Studying BTEC Higher Nationals is significantly cheaper than going to university but also offers the same quality of teaching and learning that you will expect to find on a HE course/programme at university. You will also have access to our Games Design facilities reserved specially for our students studying our HNC/HND courses in Games Development. You may access these outside of scheduled lessons, giving you time to work on personal projects and assessments.
