CACHE Diploma in Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools, Level 3 (19+)
OVERVIEW
This qualification provides leaners with an in-depth understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children and young people in school environments. It covers all aspects of specialist support including planning, delivering and reviewing assessment strategies to support learning alongside the teacher, personal development and reflective practice.
Learners must be able to attend a three hour taught session per week and commit to finding and attending a voluntary placement for six hours per week in a primary or secondary school. At placement, learners will support the teacher in the delivery of the curriculum within the school setting as well as develop the skills needed to support children and young people to develop self-esteem, independence and skills for learning.
Learners will study a comprehensive range of units to support their role, some of which will be studied as distance learning. Topics covered include child development, health and safety, communication, assessment for learning, safeguarding and equality and diversity practice.
Leaners must have a satisfactory Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check. A CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning (STL), or, an interview demonstrating substantial experience of working in a school environment that is relevant and current in relation to personal vocational experience to date. A letter from a Head Teacher confirming their recommendation of progress onto the level 3 qualification will support an application.
Learners will produce a portfolio of evidence that will be internally assessed and externally moderated. Assessment of knowledge will be via assignments. Assessment of the competency of skills will be via two or more observations while at the placement setting.
Successful completion of the course enables learners to gain employment in a school setting, or progress to higher education such as the Foundation Degree in Education and Care.
