Learners will study a comprehensive range of 11 units to support their role, some of which will be studied as distance learning. Topics covered include child development, health and safety, communication, assessment for learning, safeguarding and equality and diversity practice.

This course will start in January 2025.

Learners must have a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. A NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning or an interview demonstrating substantial experience of working in a school environment, that is relevant and current in relation to personal vocational experience to date. A letter from a Head Teacher confirming their recommendation of progress onto the level 3 qualification will support an application.

Learners will produce a portfolio of evidence that will be internally assessed and externally moderated. Assessment of knowledge will be via assignments. Assessment of the competency of skills will be via two or more observations whilst at the placement setting.

Successful completion of the course enables learners to gain employment in a school setting, or progress to higher education such as the Foundation Degree in Education and Care.
