Before you start the course you will need to consider what sort of job, career or degree you eventually wish to follow. It is also advisable that you access university information regarding more specific entry requirements. This helps you to decide which subjects to study.

Students will study a particular pathway dependent upon this. Pathways are combinations of subjects which are tailored to fit careers/course. The pathways offered at South Tyneside College include: Social Science pathway and Science pathway. Further information about the subject content of these pathways can be discussed at interview. Within these pathways, you will complete a range of units, successful completion will accrue credits. To achieve the full Access Diploma qualification you must achieve 60 credits in total.

Entry Requirements top

The Access Programme has been designed for adults who are returning to college after a break from study. You will learn with like-minded people and the tutors are very helpful and supportive. Prospective students should have a GCSE in maths and English at grade C or above.The course runs from September to June.

Assessment top

Assessment is continuous and all assignments are written by the awarding body Ascentis. Assessment is conducted through a combination of written assignments, reports, practical investigations and externally set controlled assessments and exams.

Most Access students progress to Higher Education.
