Aspiring chefs of the future are getting ready to serve up some delicious delights as part of this year’s South Tyneside Restaurant Week (Saturday 7 - Saturday 14 October).

South Tyneside College’s catering students have created a mouth-watering menu, especially for Restaurant Week, to help demonstrate their skills and experience in the kitchen.

Bistro 150, which operates as a fully commercial restaurant within the college’s main campus in South Shields, will be serving up the students’ one off menu, offering a choice of two tempting starters, mains and desserts.

This includes starters of butternut squash and sweet potato soup or deep fried breaded mushrooms; main courses of pan fried chicken breast or baked cod, and decadent desserts, including strawberry cheesecake and treacle sponge.

Councillor Alan Kerr, Deputy Leader of South Tyneside Council, with responsibility for Culture and Leisure, said: “It is wonderful to have the college’s hospitality and catering department on board for this year’s Restaurant Week.

“The week offers students a wonderful opportunity to showcase their gourmet talents and service while giving members of the public a chance to support them as they learn their trade. I am sure all those visiting Bistro 150 will have a lovely time sampling the dishes on offer.”

Diners can enjoy two courses for only £10 or three courses for £12, from Tuesday 10 October to Thursday 12 October, 12noon to 2pm, during Restaurant Week.

I hope diners will come along and sample the tasty and delicious menu that our students have created just for them.”

The College is just one of more than 40 eateries across the Borough taking part in the event, organised by South Tyneside Council.

Other eateries taking part include Bistro Romano in Cleadon; Dilshad, Florence Bar and Bistro, Ghiaccio Ice Cream and Dessert Lounge, Mambo II and Mambo Wine and Dine, The Grotto, Marsden Inn, Lakeside Inn and The Rattler.
